“Hi!, my name is Leona.”
History of the Kitchen Witch
The Kitchen Witch tradition originates fron Northern Europe, specifically Scandanavia and Germany, with roots stretching back over 400 years.
Folklore tells us that a Kitchen Witch is a good Witch who is tasked with bringing in good fortune and warding off bad spirits, making the kitchen a joyful, cozy and comfortable place to be. The Kitchen Witch is a gentle whimsical creature, and a symbol of warmth, happiness and protective magick in the home.
According to legend, a Kitchen Witch makes certain that bread and pastries will rise, milk will not sour or spoil, and cooking pots will not boil dry. Toast, potatoes and rice won’t burn, the spices you add will be perfect, as will the tea and coffee you serve.
The tradition of the Kitchen Witch continues today, with many people hanging them in their kitchens as a reminder of the magick and joy that can be found through cooking.
